Obon - Kamogawa - Tomisato Dam

Obon is a festival in the middle of August that commemorate the ancestors. All over Japan people are given 3 days off and they return to their hometowns to be with their family and remember those in their family who have died. During this time I was given a week off. I was going to use it to get off of Shikoku, but instead I stuck around and spent quite a few days down in Saijo at the river.

We were lucky that we had good weather for most of the days. Like the previous days of the summer it was incredibly hot. Perfect weather for spending time in very cold water. I went to Kamogawa 3 separate times over that week.

One of the times Angelina and me found this great spot further up the mountain. It was removed from the main swimming area, but it wasn’t completely empty. There were other families, but it was nice because it wasn’t crowded. The water was also a little more still so the water had a little chance to warm up. We were able to get some great photos of the water and the divide that the river flows through the mountain.

Our new swimming spot on the river
That night the pair of us also decided to do a little photo shoot. We took my camera and just went out around Angelina’s house and took a few photos. It was a fun day.

After that day I went once more to Kamogawa and to our new found swimming spot.

On the last day of my holiday a group of us from Niihama headed out to Doi (pronounced doy). From here we were met by another one of the foreigners who live in our little area of Ehime. We piled into cars and headed a little further east to Mishima and to Tomisato Dam.

We didn’t go all the way up to the dam, but to a swimming area. The water here is a little more rough and it gives quite a pull, however we weren’t really there to do proper swimming. We spent the majority of the after noon jumping off the high rocks into the deep water. I was also able to do a little exploring around the area. There was a great bridge and was a great spot for photographs.

After our afternoon we went for a delicious dinner of yakiniku. Which is Japanese style barbeque. It was the great way to end a sun-filled and relaxing little holiday.
